Don’t Do It Yourself

High Priestess Piercing and Tattoo campaign

The High Priestess campaign focuses on reaching out to local audiences in an eye-catching way. This campaign addresses the trend of doing things yourself that you really shouldn’t be doing, such as body modifications, and highlights a professional studio as a safe solution and alternative. The use of satire and bluntness is used to build upon an edginess that piercing and tattoo studios are commonly known to have. Through different mediums of ads, this campaign works to create advertisements that you wouldn’t normally see but would want to stop and interact with.

Print Media: Mini Zine

A collection of mini zines would be printed and placed in areas around Eugene. Such as coffee shops, the university campus, and the two High Priestess Studios, for customers to view.

The zines include interactive pages as well as satirical writing, emphasizing the campaign’s notion that “D.I.Y.” ing body modifications is not a good idea.

Print Media: Posters

The posters for this campaign would visualize examples of DIY fails, alongside classic tattoo/piercing mess-ups. It would add a pop of color to the campaign and use a lighthearted tone to highlight the risk of trying to do things yourself.

Wildcard Execution: See it for yourself

A classic “Face-in-the-hole” cutout, where people can stand behind the board and take photos of themselves looking silly. The people drawn on the board are covered in tattoos, but none of them are done right or look good. A funny photo opportunity that can be set outside of the High Priestess studio, giving people walking by the opportunity to see how bad, bad tattoos can look. A fun way to get promotion and attention from the everyday person, no matter the age.

Wildcard Execution: Tattoo Gumball Roulette

Customers put a quarter in and get a tattoo design in return. They “have” to get the tattoo; the catch is that 50% of the designs are embarrassing, botched, or just plain bad. In reality, customers can choose if they get the design or not. The important message is that when people attempt to do tattoos themselves, they risk it turning out pretty bad. With a professional, that risk is a lot lower. At the end of the day, though, the choice is theirs.
